Walk down South Congress Streets (know locally as SOCO) and experiencing a variety of "Very Austiny" restaurants, bars, fun shops, people watching and funky retail cloths outlets. The original, "Hey Cupcake" stand has great packaging for just a single cupcake, and is a unique idea for a fun and different Birthday present. First Thursday is fast becoming an Austin tradition on SOCO. On the First Thursday of each month, merchants of the historic, pedestrian-friendly South Congress Avenue keep their doors open until 10 pm (and later in some cases), playing host to an array of events and activities.

Blues on the Green: A free concert in Waterloo Park. It is early enough to eat dinner after and you can go out with blankets and hang out while 107.1 hosts a free concert every other Wednesday in the summer. They always snag the largest Austin names to play. This is really fun and a ton of families and just couples. Tons of restaurants (Stubbs!) and the capital is less than three blocks.
